RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TRAVELING TO SANTO TOME AND PRINCIPE
WHAT DO YOU NEED ON YOUR TRIP
DOCUMENTATION AND VISAS
The documentation you are going to need is your valid Passport with an expiration of less than 6 months.
São Tomé and Príncipe is a country open to tourism, so you can come up to 15 days without any formalities or without paying anything. If you want to spend more than 15 days in the country, you can pay at passport control to stay up to a month. For longer periods, you should check with the Spanish consulate in Santo Tomé.
São Tomé has no embassy, our embassy is located in Libreville. If we have a consulate to make inquiries.
VACCINATION AND RISKS
São Tomé and Príncipe is one of the safest countries in terms of health. No vaccine is compulsory, if there are recommendations from the Spanish Ministry of Health, such as yellow fever, tetanus or hepatitis.
The incidence of malaria is very low, so it is up to you to decide whether to carry out the treatment or not.
The main problems that tourists encounter are most of the time digestive. ALWAYS bring a good medicine kit of all kinds to go calm and comfortable on your trip.
WANT TO DRIVE?
Driving is São Tomé and Príncipe is possible. You can drive with our Spanish driving license, it is not necessary international. You drive on the right as in Spain, they are "a little" more kamikazes and messy in traffic, but it is viable to drive without a problem.
The roads to the north and south of Santo Tomé are a bit disastrous so they will be more uncomfortable and difficult for the most fearful, but with patience you arrive. In Príncipe however, I would recommend a driver / guide on at least the first day for making contact and then already deciding.
The average temperature of Santo Tomé is 25ºC. There are two main more pronounced eras. Our summer from June to September is the dry season, gravel. At that time it hardly rains, but neither is it sunny every day. It is usually cloudy. During the day it is a pleasant temperature, like spring, however at night you may need some fine jacket days. It is the best time to travel to São Tomé and Principe. The rest of the year, the rains are usually combined with sunny days. There the temperature is usually warmer.
The south of São Tomé and Príncipe usually rains more than in the rest.
MONEY AND PAYMENT WITH CARD
The country's local currency is the Dobra (STD). Calculate that € 1 is 25 STD. The money you have planned for your trip must be brought in cash, since here the ATMs and in almost all the establishments you will NOT be able to make card payments. Many tourists encounter this problem when they arrive in Santo Tomé.
If you need to change money safely, consult us and we will help you.
Carrying out travel insurance is essential and an essential investment if you travel to any destination, mainly in countries with a lack of medical infrastructure.
We recommend that you do it with IATI insurance. (we offer you basic insurance on your trips)
TRAVEL WITH CHILDREN
Traveling to São Tomé and Príncipe with children is possible and there are adequate accommodations to make the trip as comfortable as possible.
The country is safe and has the vast majority of services that one may need on his trip. There are supermarkets, pharmacies where you can find almost anything. Likewise, with regard to food, it has a varied gastronomy.
Travel can be a great experience for your children.
I don't know
Being connected in São Tomé and Príncipe is really easy and cheap.
The country has a fast and affordable connection that will allow you to use google maps for example throughout your trip and feel that you are always connected.
There are few areas where the connection fails.
